About Canada’s
Work Permit Program

We assist international workers with an offer of employment in Canada. We offer services to applicants residing both in and outside of Canada.

International Workers Outside of Canada
We will assist you from the initial steps up to the completion of your application. We carefully review Canadian embassy requirements from your originating country as they handle your application. We see to it that your application is properly presented based on the set guidelines.

International Workers Residing in Canada
We can assist you with extending your work permit, obtaining approval for your Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), and changing employers. We will also help facilitate your application for permanent residency, including your re-entry visa.

Work Permit Application Process

  1. Determine if you will need a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). A LMIA may be required in order for a work permit to be issued. If so, the employer must complete and submit the application for an LMIA before extending an offer to the international worker (applicant).
Once you have written evidence of your job offer or contract of employment, and an LMIA if needed, you can begin applying.
  2. We will help you gather the necessary documents and complete the paperwork to submit your application. You must be able to meet and demonstrate several requirements to apply for a work permit, and provide proof of your eligibility in your application package.
  3. Your application will undergo a detailed review by an officer. Processing times will vary from 12-16 days if submitted in Canada. Processing times for applications submitted outside of Canada may vary depending on your country of residence.
  4. Your application may be approved, rejected, or an interview may be necessary before a decision is made. If an interview is required, you will receive a letter specifying the date, time and place of the interview. We will help coach you through what to expect, and best practices. If your application is rejected, CIC will return your application with the reason(s) why it was rejected. We can help you file an appeal if necessary.
